This is a picture with more detail of the trunk to help you identify it. Pictures of the leaves and more descriptions of the tree can be seen in the original post. Wow, this really IS a stumper. The leaves throw me. I’ve ruled out a multitude of prospects, trying to ID it on my own here. I bet I could get a definitive answer within a few hours by posting at DG, but I enjoy the hunt — and 10 bucks at Amazon would be *sweet*. LOL

I finally found a resource which helped me ID this thing! I thought it looked like a poplar, but it didn’t look similar enough to the North American species I looked up. Turns out, it is a European White Poplar. Salicaceae Populus alba.
