Watering Tip 2
With Summer heat, and longer periods of sun, even vegetation that requires full sun can start to wilt. It’s very easy to over water your plants during this time, and unfortunately over watering and under watering usually have the same symptoms in plants. Wilting, or fading can also be a sign that your plants have been watered too much. Just because the soil is dry on the top, it may still be very wet on the bottom, especially in larger pots. The best solution to this problem is to get an inexpensive water meter at your local garden center. You can find simple gauges that are only inserted when you need to check the water, or more decorative ones shaped like birds, frogs, or other animals that are placed permanently in the pot.
I’ve been seeing this tip floating around for the past few days. I’ve heard if before, but seems to always find it’s way to How To sites and books around this time. If you don’t have a drill, then simply poke some holes in the bottom of the bottle with a needle and adjust the flow by tightening and loosening the lid. Don’t poke too many holes, or it will make the water run too quickly. This is very useful if you are going away on vacation and don’t have someone to water your plants.
