Three Plants for the Price of . . . . Half of One?
You’ve seen these right? Little 6-8″ pots with three or more plants in them. You find them everywhere. Even in stores that don’t carry gardening or even house supplies. They usually run any where from $2 - $7. Cheap, small, mass produced plants that are meant to attract people who don’t normally garden, or even have so much as an air fern in their house. If your looking for new house plants, this is probably the best deal you could ever find. Cheaper than normal house plants you find in garden centers and nurseries, and usually containing more than one plant. They are generally pretty tolerant of stressful conditions because of the way they are produced, and they usually get a lot bigger with time, so you can split them up into separate pots and have. Some of them are genetically altered or pruned to be miniatures of larger type plants. This one pictured here is an example of that. The bigger plant in the back is a caladium, and at least half the size of normal, bulb planted caladiums. There’s also two different croton’s in this pot, though the smaller one is hard to see in this picture. I got this pot for $2. Buying larger more developed versions of these plants separately might have cost me, at the least, $5 for each plant. $2 or $15. I think I’ll take the $2 and wait for them to get bigger!

Aren’t those the greatest? The varieties in these little pots are often unnamed, but with resources available online it’s sometimes possible to find out the cultivar. I’ll tell you where I’ve found others — People who doing enjoy houseplants have given me planters sent to them in memory of loved ones.

I love it when places will put plants on clearance because they think they are dying, when really all they need is a little light or water!

You are so right! I got a little $1.50 dying clearance fella from Home Depot 4 years ago - after repotting, and splitting off some shoots once it got big, it now has a place in at least 4 of my rooms. Like Rebecca said, I cannot believe the value I’ve gotten from a tiny plant, a little sunlight and some water! And I am by no means a green thumb. Good call!

there are so many emails on line now regarding nosey neighbors but, few suggestion other then planting tree’s or building high walls, which one you either wait for a year or two for the tree to grow, or two spend lots of money on building walls.
I really like your idea on weld mesh for trellis, and I plan on putting quick growing vines on it fast to block out my perverted nosey neighbor. Please put this idea and others if you have them on dealing with nosey neighbors, its a hugh problem!
thanks
