Happy First Day Of Spring

Happy First Day Of Spring

I love Spring, I’ve had the worst case of Spring fever this year ever! I couldn’t wait for the weather to warm up, and everything to turn green. Now I can give a big hoorah! It’s official, the weather will start warming up, and my flowers will be blooming.
I think the first day of Spring is one of the best reasons to celebrate all year!
Spring begins on what is known as the Vernal Equinox, or the time when the days start getting longer than the nights. That’s today, March 20th in the Northern hemisphere. If you’re in the Southern …read more

I See Spring Growth!

I See Spring Growth!

The weather was fairly nice yesterday (Saturday) here in Ohio. I was out working in the yard and garden Friday and Saturday. We even saw some blue skies and sunshine for a few moments. The grass is looking greener, my daffodils are budding, the pussy willow is looking quite festive, and my rhubarb is peeking through the mulch. I get so excited this time of year (remind me in July, I like warm weather).
Check out my weekend pics.

Food Network Has You Eating Green

Food Network Has You Eating Green

I was browsing through The Food Network earlier tonight, and discovered they have a whole section devoted to eating green. They discuss the criteria for organic, sustainable, natural, and locally grown food. They also discuss hormone free, free range, grass fed, and antibiotic free, and the definitions for those terms. It’s a nifty little guide.
I was there browsing for some spring vegetable recipes, and they didn’t disappoint in that area either.
Check out the Food Network’s recipes for:
Spring Vegetable Rice Salad
Grilled Chicken with Brie and Baby Spinach Salad
The Barefoot Contessa has Green Spring Vegetables (these look yummy I’m ready for …read more

Spring Garden Clean Up Time

This photo shows what our yard looked like last weekend.  Snow on the ground, and ice on the trees.
The weather is warmer this weekend, about 48 degrees today, and sunny. The snow is melting!  It was great to get outside and check out the garden. Of course we have a chance of more snow later this week, you gotta love that Ohio weather!
Here are a 5 things you can get started on now, to make your life simpler when the warm weather rolls in:
1. It’s a great time to cut back any leftover debri from last years perennial growth, and …read more

30 Days Until Spring!

30 Days Until Spring!

I love spring! It’s my favorite time of the year. I love it when everything starts growing and turning green. I know some would say I’m wishing my life away, but I wish for spring from January first until March.
I’m usually good through December, I think it’s all the holiday bustle. I love the
Christmas season, so I’d never want to skip that. I usually get a big poinsettia, and we have the Christmas tree to give me my green fix.
After Christmas I go into hibernation for the next couple months. Most of the year I love to be outside, but …read more
