Playing with Water
I went up to the community gardens this afternoon with my daughter Clare. She fought me over the hose. What is it about watering vegetables that attracts children so much? I was thinking as we stood there that one of the sad things about the drought we are having – and very low water storages in Melbourne’s dams – is that children can no longer just get out and play under the sprinklers like we used to when we were young. Watering the sweetcorn is the probably the only time Clare gets the luxury of waving the hose around and seeing how the flow arcs and glitters in the sun.
