Name that Tree August Contest Winner
The tree in question is a White Poplar! While it is an absolutely beautiful tree, it can spread pretty quickly by shoots from the roots. The two trees that were mentioned are more than likely the same tree since they grow so closely together. They are usually found more commonly near the Atlantic coast, so this tree was probably planted here on purpose since there are no other specimens near by. They can be found naturally here in Ohio, but you have to know what your looking for. If you plan on planting this lovely tree, plant it in an area you can easily keep the aggressive shoots in line. Mowing usually does the trick! Let
two or three of the shoots grow up further apart for a lovely shade grove.
And the winner of the contest is. . . . . Kimberly from Garden Wife’s Plot! She was selected randomly from all the correct guesses. Congrats Kimberly! She will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card! There were several people who guess correctly and a few that were so very close! Thanks for guessing and check back for more contests in the future!
