Mother Earth’s Garden

Mutated Flower

I was in the flower section of my garden center and found this little beauty looking up at me from a shelf of potted flowers. One stem, two flowers. Not sure what causes plants to mutate like this. I’m sure it has something to do with being grown in the same green house year after year. It’s like inbreeding for plants, keeping them all together and reseeding them every season. But there are plant mutations all around us. Ever find a four leaf clover? That’s a mutation. I was lucky enough to find a seven leaf clover once when I was younger. I kept it and pressed it into a bookmark! I’ve also seen a broccoli plant pollinate with a cauliflower to create a weird mutant vegetable. Was not quite brave enough to try this exotic veggie, but then I don’t like cauliflower, so I probably would not have liked it! What are some weird plant mutations you have witnessed?

Very cool mutant flower! A couple of years ago I found this wonder in my garden : http://bcsporthorse.com/gallery/sunflowers/abb

The sunflowers that year were seeds collected, I call it the results of indiscriminate breeding in a good way. The entire gallery: http://bcsporthorse.com/gallery/sunflowers

    Hi,

I have been growing Sun Flowers for roughly 6 months and in that time i have grown one very strange Sun Flower, this Sun Flower is only about 30cm high and has two stems and two flowers, eg. a two headed flower.
Although lately at has grown a third tiny flowers on the side of one of the bigger flowers. I have never seen this before, could somone please shed some light on my situation
