Make A Pine Cone Topiary
I saw this idea somewhere a couple years ago, and I decided to make my own pine cone topiary for my fireplace mantle. It was really simple to make. I whitewashed a clay pot, it would also look great sponge painted. You could probably use a fancier pot if you wanted to invest in it. I was just trying to use things I already had around the house.
I cut a small Styrofoam ball in half then slid it into the flower pot. I picked up several sticks from the yard, then used the one that was the best fit. We have several evergreen trees, so finding a pine cone was easy in our yard. I hot glued the pine cone to the stick, then hot glued the other end of the stick and inserted it into the Styrofoam ball. I hid the mechanics with a little sphagnum moss.
It only took a couple minutes to assemble. I made a couple to put across my mantle with a few evergreen branches and some white lights.
