Make a Hyper Tufa Trough

by linette on February 21st, 2008

A hyper tufa trough looks like a stone trough but it’s much lighter. It makes a great container for plants. You can make them in any shape or size, and the material cost is very cheap.

A hyper tufa trough is a planter made with one part cement (not concrete or mortar), one part peat moss, and one part perlite. Some recipes call for a little less cement. You’ll need two nesting containers, bowl shaped or boxes as molds.

Before mixing everything up you’ll want to lay down a large sheet of heavy plastic. You can mix the ingredients in a large wheel barrow. It’s a messy job, but the end results are worth it.

The finished product is a naturally porous container plants love.

Here is an excellent step by step tutorial video for making your own hyper tufa trough.

Oh yeah I’ve seen that Hypertufa video tutorial before. It shows people very well on how to make hypertufa. Your right it is kind of a messy job but if you consider the amount of pots and creations one can make are well worth the efforts. I’ve made pilars, pots and planters with this and it works great. People will definitely enjoy doing this but people just have to give it a try and see.

Love your blog and I will stop by again.

    Sincerely,
