Growing Your Own Food To Become More Self Sufficient
One of the first steps to self-sufficiency is the ability to grow your own food. With the economy up in the air and food costs on the rise growing your own food is a very economical choice. If you grow and preserve your own food, it may take a little time, but it could save a good chunk on your food budget.
There’s nothing better than plucking a fresh tomato from the garden and taking a bite. Fresh corn, peppers, squash and onions from the garden are all tastier than their supermarket counterparts. The added bonus? When you pick it off the vine it’s not loaded with additives and preservatives (and when you grow organically no pesticides, or chemical fertilizers).
You’ll eat healthier when you have the opportunity to eat fresh fruits and vegetables from your garden. Since your home grown produce will have a better flavor, you won’t have to add anything to make your dishes delicious.
In my experience growing your own food is very rewarding. It’s a wonderful feeling to know you’re providing healthy nutrition for your family, and that it was grown with your own hands.
You may also be able to grow enough food to supply friends and neighbors with some fresh from the garden vegetables and fruits, and earn a little extra money from your efforts.
