Growing Organically For Market
I found a three great resources for anyone thinking about going commercial with their garden this summer.
1. Market Organic Gardening ~ Going Commercial discusses the basics of organic gardening for market, and what you should expect.
2. Market Gardening: A Startup Guide is an excellent resource for anyone thinking about gardening commercially. The article talks about developing a business plan, finding markets for your products, record keeping, and equipment you may need for your gardening business.
3. Mother Earth’s News (one of my favorite magazines, and online gardening resources) has an article on The Heirloom Market and how to cash in. The article discusses how to market your delicious heirloom vegetables in a world of no taste commercial grown produce.
There are more great growing for market resources, but these should get you started, and help answer the basic startup questions.
I think about selling some of my garden extras every summer, but I always give my garden surplus to friends and family, or donate to the local food kitchen.
