Gardening for cats
I don’t have children yet, so of course I spoil and shower lots of love upon my two cats. So how do you include fuzzy little pets into your garden? Well, first of all, figure out where you don’t want them. If you are worried about them eating your plants, digging in your flower bed, rolling in the dirt, or simply being cats, then you might not want to let them in your garden. But if you have cats like mine, who are simply too cute for their own good, and usually are not too mischeivious when they are outside, then I highly recommend doing some planting just for them. Lots and lots of grass is a good idea. Not only does it make a great ornamental filler for your garden, but if it is readily available, it will keep most cats from eating the buds off your flowers. They love grass, and it helps with their digestion. Also, plant some flowers and shrubs that attract butterflies and birds, especially near windows so they can watch from inside too. If you are worried about them eating the birds and butterflies, then put up a feeder off the ground, and plant in places they can see from inside windows, but not access outside very easily. Cats will be cats though, so if you don’t want them bringing in “surprises” for you, you may just want to keep them inside. Be very very careful when deciding what and where to plant in your garden, especially if you pets are going to be allowed out. There are a lot of flowers and shrubs that can hurt your furry friends. Some are even fatal for them. If you have cats, it is really fun to watch them romp around in the garden, so be sure to think of them when you are planning your garden.
