Garden High Rise

I came across this building recently that is every apartment dwelling gardeners dream home! This architectural wonder is located in Rotterdam, in Netherlands.

Designed by UCX Architects, the future housing project will accommodate 98 residential units within its 19 floors. Because it sits on a harbor, the architects decided that the tower needed a natural “green” image – which has manifested itself in a stacked set of rotated, swoopy plates.

Because of it’s unique design, it has large balconies open to bright sunlight. Perfect for container gardens and large planters. I live in an apartment, and I know how hard it is to find space to plant a decent garden when you’re renting, but I don’t even think home owners have quite the luxury of this balcony! Beautiful cascading gardens, able to be viewed from all directions, whether it be a passer by on the street, or your neighbors above you. Bright sunshine for those wishing for a sunny garden, or rent on the north side of the building for a shadier style. I imagine that the rent in a building like this would be fairly close if not more than a mortgage payment, but for those avid gardeners not wanting to hassle with maintenance and up keep of a home, this is surely the next best thing!

That is one cool building! Even without all of the plants it is a neat building but when you add all of those planters it is very cool!

That looks wonderful. It’s good to know that architects are thinking of us gardeners. It kind of reminds me of some of the Frank Lloyd-Wright buildings in the Hollywood Hills !

It reminded me of Frank Lloyd-Wright too. All the clean lines and open spaces. Definitely a posh type building for the people who want to stand out. I wish I had a balcony this big and sunny for my container garden!

That is amazing! I love seeing green space incorporated into modern architecture.
