Mother Earth’s Garden

Eggplant worries

by Margaret on December 30th, 2006

I am worried about my eggplant. I put them in at the beginning of summer, but they are still little stunted things. Certainly they are flowering, but there is no sign of the big purple fruits I adore. None of my gardening books help. Could it be that the soil needs more care? I doubt it. The zucchinis are bursting with fruit, the capsicums look happy and well.

This is annoying. When I lived int he Blue Mountains - with winters that got down to minus six degrees Celsius - I found I could grow eggplants all year round in my greenhouse. To fail in what are meant to be ideal conditions is very humbling, to say the least.

All suggestions gratefully accepted.

I wish I had a suggestion for you - it is indeed a humbling experience when things don’t work out. I hate it when that happens!

Yeah, but sometimes it might be good to be reminded that nature really is the boss, despite our best attempts to prove otherwise. And glad to report that since the rain late last week, the eggplants are looking a bit happier.
