Confessions of a Non-Recycler
I must confess that with all my talk of being more environmentally friendly, I’m not much of a recycler. The truth of the matter is I’m not willing to drive an hour to the nearest recycle center. I’ve looked and looked in my area for a recycle bin I can drop things off at, and there is simply none. We do have an option for tin cans, which I do recycle my pop cans and other recyclable metal. But when it comes to plastic, glass or paper, it is severely lacking. I feel compelled to do something about this. Perhaps call the cit
y out on their lack of efforts to recycle.
In the mean time, those of you who are willing to drive and hour or have recycle pick ups and drop offs, here’s a little something that might help you out. A BottleCycler Recycling and Waste Management System. Another great idea from Cooking Gadgets. This little gismo can reduce the volume of your recyclable material by 80%, which means less trips to the recycle bin. It breaks down glass into recyclable pieces very easily. Be sure to check it out.

I think there is a recycle bin behind our house in the Ben Franklin school parking lot. I will check and let you know if it is for anyone to use. I’m sure there are others that we don’t know about also. They just don’t get advertised.

Hey…That’s how it was in New Mexico — no one there has even heard of recycling. Well, maybe they’ve heard of it, but there are hardly any recycle bins, and you have to recycle soda cans by the pound. The pound! It’s insane. I’m glad to be back in Oregon where it’s considered almost criminal to not recycle. But I feel you you.
Good (and honest) post.

HI BECCA, THERE ARE LOTS OF RECYCLING BINS AROUND TOWN. I USUALLY USE THE ONE BEHIND THE LIBRARY. I KNOW OF OTHERS - IN THE TCS PARKING LOT ON DEO DRIVE. AT THE HEATH CITY BUILDING AND ALMOST EVERY SCHOOL HAS A PAPER RECYCLING BIN.

Thanks for commenting everybody! I’ll look into those recycle bins you have mentioned. It will make my husband very happy to get rid of all of the plastic bottles I’ve been keeping around!

Well I looked and it is just for paper in the bin at the school. I thought is was for everything.
