I thought I’d end the year with a quick wrap up of the most popular posts of 2008. I’ve been blogging at Mother Earth’s garden for 14 months now. It’s been a fun ride, and I’ve really enjoyed sharing my garden with all of you. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading what I have to say.

I love Tomatillos for salsas and chutneys, combine them with cilantro and you have what I think is one of natures perfect flavor combinations. The new Pineapple Tomatillo from The Cook’s Garden sounds very interesting.

I had the opportunity to take a look at a really cute new children’s book, about a boy named Henry. Henry and the Hidden Vegetable Garden could be about my son. We sat down and read the book and talked about how he could add more vegetables into his diet. Then he wanted to eat some carrots and dip for his snack. Vegetables are never his first choice for a snack, so the book definitely had a positive affect. He’s claimed the book and carried it off to read it again.

I’m ready for some early spring greens, onions, and potatoes. Especially now, since prices are so high at the grocery. I recently had the opportunity to take a look at the new Cooking Light Complete Cookbook: A Fresh New Way to Cook from Cooking Light of course. They have a whole section on using seasonal produce.  Just in time for the spring garden harvest.

I’ve been checking out Bird-by-Bird Gardening by Sally Roth. It’s an excellent resource for anyone just getting started gardening for birds. It breaks down the different types of birds and discusses what features you need in your garden to attract specific bird families.
It also shows several specific garden designs and makes suggestions for improving your existing garden. It’s more of a reference guide than a book you would sit down and read cover to cover.
It is a great beginner book for someone who wants to learn more about creating a habitat in their back yard to attract birds. If …read more

I have three children’s books I dearly love. They’re all by Carl R. Sams II, and Jean Stoick. The first one is called Stranger in the Woods: A Photographic Fantasy. The photography in this book is breathtaking. The children are intoduced to nature through the view of the animals of the forest. They’re trying to figure out who the delicious stranger in their woods is, and how the stranger got there. Check out the story to find the answer to the mystery. They also provide instructions on how to make an animal friendly edible snowman.

About a week ago I was contacted by 21st Century Formulations to test a new product of theirs. I’m always willing to test new products, but with a warning that I will be brutally honest about it.
