Gift Ideas For The Gardener Roundup

Gift Ideas For The Gardener Roundup

I’ve been posting quite a few gift ideas for the gardener lately, so I thought I’d round all those up into one handy dandy gift guide for the gardener before everyone is in full Christmas shopping mode.

Gardeners love gifts from the garden, and gifts they can use in the garden. Many are also nature fans, so gifts related to nature are always a good choice.
Here are a few of the gardener gift ideas I’ve mentioned this year, or in the past here at Mother Earth’s Garden.

Harvest Eating Cookbook Review

Harvest Eating Cookbook Review

Last week I received a copy of the Harvest Eating Cookbook by Keith Snow for review. I am of course in love with this wonderful book. The coobook contains over 200 recipes utilizing seasonal local ingredients.

One of my favorite things to do is to use ingredients from my own garden, or from the local farmers markets whenever possible when I cook, so I was totally excited to check out this book.
What I really like about this cookbook are the beautiful photos. There are over 100 photos to go with the recipes. I’m a foodie, so I love to see great …read more

Garden Planter Gift Ideas

Garden Planter Gift Ideas

I love planters and container gardens. They’re fun for patios and decks, and even to add right to the garden as a focal point. If you have a gardener on your gift list, a planter would make a great gift, add a gift card for them to buy some plants in the spring and you’ve got a gift any gardener would love. Today I have some fun planters to share with you from Montgomery Ward.
Tractor Planter $119.99 — This one is my favorite! You’re sure to appreciate the rustic charm of this vintage tractor planter. It has working wheels and …read more

The Story Of a Chickadee

The Story Of a Chickadee

I recently had the pleasure of reading “Emily the Chickadee” by Carol Zelaya. It’s an adorable true story about a little chickadee that takes up residence in a flower box outside a little girl’s window.

As the little girl watches over the next few weeks little Emily starts and raises her family in the nest she builds in the window flower box.
“Emily The Chickadee” is one of three heartwarming stories about Emily by Carol Zelaya. In the series Carol hopes Emily will inspire other children to love nature, like the little chickadee inspired her while she was growing up.
I really enjoyed …read more

Tin Flowers

Tin Flowers

I went to Shipshewana Indiana this last weekend with my family. I had a great time browsing all the plants and garden ornaments they have there. My favorites were the tin flowers I spied at one of the shops (Eash Sales). They would look gorgeous in my garden.

They had daisies and sunflowers, dahlias, flowering trees and more.

It was fun to check out all the big bold colors in the display. Most of the blooms were at least a foot across. The best part about these flowers? You can’t kill them, and they’ll even be bright and …read more

Garden Fashion: Rain Boots

Garden Fashion: Rain Boots

I see these really cool printed and patterned rain boots everywhere I go. I think I’m going to have to get myself a pair for the garden this spring. Won’t I look quite fashionable pulling weeds in the rain in a pair of these?
Actually, I just want a pair, not sure they’d be worn just in the garden (at least this year). I’d probably wear them everywhere, including the garden.
These were my favorite patterns, I think because they’re all floral or garden inspired.

Gifts From the Garden~ Make a Pressed Flower Picture

Gifts From the Garden~ Make a Pressed Flower Picture

I love to press and dry flowers during the summer, then I have them in the fall and winter to make presents and projects. I even have my own flower press.
I usually use my dried and pressed flowers to make a few pressed flower pictures, and some dried floral arrangements. They make wonderful gifts.
I bought the frame for the picture here, but sometimes I make them from old barn siding and boards.
I make my own card paper for the backgrounds,  and add a little texture with small seeds and pieces of plants that didn’t survive the drying or …read more

Gifts For The Gardener~ The Mantis Tiller

Gifts For The Gardener~ The Mantis Tiller

The Mantis is my favorite little garden tiller. It’s not so large that I can’t maneuver it in the garden, like some other tillers.
The Mantis Tiller/Cultivator has an exclusive patented reversible “serpentine” tines to dig deep even in the hardest soil (and I have high clay hard soil in parts of my Ohio garden).
It’s the little tiller that could, easy to start, and easy to use.
The Mantis tiller helps you till even the tightest spaces between plants, which works great for me. I tend to plant everything close together, then about half way through the summer everything’s …read more
