Scenes From North Carolina Gardens

Scenes From North Carolina Gardens

I mentioned the other day that we just returned from a trip to North Carolina. I already showed you the beautiful Crepe Myrtle trees in full bloom, but I wanted to show you some other images I captured while I was there. North Carolina is in zones 7 and 8, so they’re much warmer year round than my zone 5 Ohio garden.
I’m so jealous of some of the fabulous plants they can grow there year round. I would love to be able to grow palm trees.

Or keep hibiscus outside all year round.

I saw this fabulous rosemary …read more

More Iris Blooms!

More Iris Blooms!

I have more Irises blooming happily in my hillside garden. I love a display of cut Irises in a tall vase on my kitchen table. They’re a real eye catcher.
I enjoy their fragrance, but my husband doesn’t so much, so you may want to check with the other members of your family before you plop a whole vase full on the dining room table at supper time. I think they smell kind of like grapes, but they definitely have a scent.
My hillside is covered with white, purple, and yellow iris blooms so I have to share a few more photos.
My …read more

Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day April 2009

Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day April 2009

I can’t believe it’s already mid April! The end of March and first few days of April were warm and sunny for the most part here, but the last week has been rainy and cooler most days.
The touch of warm has me hungry for more days I can get outside and work in the garden.
Here’s what’s blooming in my garden in April.
A little pink hyacinth to brighten dreary days and some tulips just peaking out of their green hiding place.

I have several varieties of daffodils, but several are still thinking about blooming, I wish they would …read more

Robins In The Yard~ First Signs Of Spring

Robins In The Yard~ First Signs Of Spring

I always get excited the first time I see robins every year. To me they’re usually the first signs of spring. We usually have several pairs who call our small farm home during the summer.
There was a whole band of robins passing through our yard tonight. Probably because we have a couple trees that have some winter berries on them.
I took a couple photos of them while they were here for their short stay. They’re not the best photos, I shot them through the front porch window. Every time I opened the door the birds scattered. The only …read more

When Mother Nature Decorates

When Mother Nature Decorates

We woke up this morning to a beautiful winter wonderland. I don’t remember what the technical term is for it, but I call it a “frightful frost.” The trees were all glistening with a frosting from Mother Nature.
Of course I had to get a “few” photos to share with all of you. Here are a few photos I got just as the sun came up , everything had a blue splendor:

The evergreens were beautiful in their dusting of white.

Here’s a shot along the creek. It doesn’t freeze often, but several days of temps below 0`F has it …read more

Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day~ December 2008

Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day~ December 2008

I don’t have anything blooming out in my garden this month, but I have plenty blooming inside! The potted geraniums in my laundry room, the other flowers in my kitchen are still blooming away this month.
I also have some paper whites I forced just starting to bloom. They should look spectacular just in time for Christmas.

I went to Lowe’s this weekend and found this huge poinsettia on sale for $7.95. So now it’s happily blooming away in my living room window sill. Adding some wonderful Christmas cheer. The check out lady at the store was cracking up …read more

Garden Blogger Bloom Day November 2008

Garden Blogger Bloom Day November 2008

I don’t have many things blooming in my zone 5 garden this month. Tonight we’re supposed to have temperatures in the twenties, so anything that hasn’t frozen will probably give in.
I did bring in some of my potted plants and put them in the sunny windows in my kitchen, and they’re still happily blooming in their new home.

And I have a geranium blooming in the laundry room.

August Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day

August Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day

I’ve been at the fair all week. I haven’t been home much during the daylight hours to get photos in the garden, but I did snap a few on the fly earlier today.
My house seems to be surrounded by a sea of yellow, while my garden on the hill seems to be overflowing with shades of lavender.

The Black Eyed Susans are taking over.

There’s still some coreopsis blooming outside my kitchen door.

I have sea lavender, and Russian Sage on the hill. If you look close you can see the red Bee Balm in the background. …read more

Dahlias

Dahlias

Check out these beautiful Dahlias from our county fair. I’m not a dahlia expert so I can’t tell you what varieties they are, I can tell you they were beautiful.

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, and I hope these beautiful flowers made your weekend a little brighter, I know they brightened my mood today.

The Dog Days of Summer

The Dog Days of Summer

This month the Lifestyles Channel is celebrating their furry friends, so I thought I’d share some photos of my four legged friends. Both of them came to live with us after their previous owners put them up for adoption. We love them both, so I think they’ve found their permanent home.
We have a Shih-tzu named Lily, and a Border Collie named Emily.
Here’s one of my favorite photos of Lily, playing in a snow drift last winter. She’s a crazy dog, full of life.

Here’s one of Emily doing what she does best, stalking something, probably a steer or …read more
