Miniature sunflowers can add texture and color to fall planters.
Autumn Joy Sedum, and other sedums add rich greens and blooms late into the fall.

One Person’s Weeds Are Another Person’s Flowers

One Person’s Weeds Are Another Person’s Flowers

Some of my favorite flowers and plants are actually considered weeds. I love the lacy Queen Anne’s Lace. It’s one of my favorite flowers to press, and to use for fresh flower arrangements this time of year.

I’m also a big fan of milkweed, because they attract butterflies to my garden, and their seed pods are great for crafting and dried flower arrangements.
I also like to use many of the grass seed heads that grow wild in our pasture for flower arrangements.
Some of my other favorite wildflowers include:

Chicory
Black Eyed Susans
Wild Phlox
Bergamot
Thistles
Yarrow
Butterfly Weed

Very Versatile Yarrow

Very Versatile Yarrow

Yarrow is one of my favorite flowers for it’s versatility, and it’s very easy to grow. It’s great for drying, fresh bouquets, or for pressing. It blooms at the end of June or first of July every year, and makes a great display in the garden too.
Yellow yarrow is my favorite, it holds it’s beautiful yellow color after it’s dried for several years. I love to use it in fall dried flower displays.

The other colors of yarrow work well too for drying and crafting. Some of my other favorite colors include purple, pink, white, and red.

Even the foliage …read more

Mums Help Brighten Fall Days

Mums Help Brighten Fall Days

When most of the other flowers in your garden are done blooming, and looking brown, mums (Chrysanthemums) are coming to life. Most of them even come in the colors of autumn, in hues of red, yellow, and orange. A few add contrasts to the fall garden of lavender, or white.
This time of the year mums are easy to find in garden centers, local supermarkets and roadside stands. They’re usually purchased as potted plants, and make a great addition to container gardens.
They also look wonderful added to fall displays and floral arrangements.
You can also plant your mum in …read more

Pumpkins Everywhere!

Pumpkins Everywhere!

We have a local festival every year called the Bradford Pumpkin Show. It’s quite a little festival. And you guessed it, everything has to do with pumpkins.
I have a few photos I took this afternoon. I hoped to have some of the painted and carved pumpkins entered in the pumpkin show, but the building wasn’t open yet tonight.
I did take a few photos. The first one is the large pumpkin display on the main street. It looks like a pumpkin tree, with a few mums added to help add color.
Big Hint: Make sure you read all the way to the …read more

Cornucopias

Cornucopias

Check out these cornucopias for fall arrangement ideas. They’re packed with flower arrangements instead of fruits and vegetables. I think they’re beautiful.

These would make beautiful decorations for a Halloween, harvest, or Thanksgiving party. The cornucopia (or horn of plenty) above has a few vegetables mixed in with the flowers. The one below is all flowers.

Garden Hats

Garden Hats

I absolutely love garden hats. They’re even more fun when you decorate them with dried flowers. This time of the year is a great time to dry flowers, even if you haven’t started already.
Make a couple garden hats to add to a Mrs. scarecrow, add to fall displays, wear to a garden party, or fall harvest party. I make them just to wear in the garden. I try not to get too much sun on my face, so I usually wear a hat, why not make it fun?
Just get out your hot glue gun and start adding flowers, it …read more

A Cute Dried Flower Craft For Fall

A Cute Dried Flower Craft For Fall

Here’s a really cute idea for all those wonderful flowers you’ve been drying over the summer. This little flower pot pumpkin would be wonderful in your fall displays.
The pumpkins are simple to make, just paint a flower pot, and the saucer orange. Paint on the pumpkins face and glue the saucer upside down to the top of the flower pot.
Hot glue the dried flowers of your choice to complete the look.
You could also use this idea to make flower pot people to decorate your garden. Just paint on their faces and decorate their hats with dried …read more

Fall Floral Arrangements

Fall Floral Arrangements

I love this time of year for flower arrangements and floral centerpieces. There’s usually a wide variety of flowers, and foliage available right in the garden, and fields to make beautiful festive fall flower displays.
Fall flower arrangement and centerpiece tips:

Hook changing leaves to wire to add foliage and color to your fall arrangements. Press the leaves in a book or flower press for a few days first, and their color will last longer.
Arrange your flowers in triangles of 3, and repeat the pattern over, and over in your arrangement.
Use wires to support dried corn, or decorative popcorn …read more
