Make A Fresh Flower and Greens Wreath For The Holidays

Make A Fresh Flower and Greens Wreath For The Holidays

Instead of using the traditional greens for your holiday wreath, you can create a fresh cut flower and greens wreath to hang on your door, or to use as a table centerpiece.
Make your wreath using 2 wire wreath forms, cut pieces of floral foam (the kind florists use for fresh flowers, into 1-2″ strips and surround it with sphagnum moss and sandwich it in between the 2 wire wreath forms. Use floral wire to hold everything in place and to wire the two wreath forms together so they will not separate.

Do You Decorate Your Garden For Christmas?

Do You Decorate Your Garden For Christmas?

I’ve always thought it would be fun to decorate my perennial garden for Christmas, but I never have. I’m still thinking about it for this year. Over the weekend I was checking out some solar Christmas lights to put int the evergreen trees in the front of my house.

While I was checking out the little solar lights I also saw some Christmas themed solar light stakes, and I almost bought them for my garden path. I even had them in my hand, then put them back. I guess the main thing stopping me was storing them away the rest of …read more

I love using pinecones to decorate this time of year. There are so many things you can do to add them to your winter holiday decor. Here are a few of my favorite ideas:

Scented pine cones are really easy to make, mix them in with the scents you’d like them to have, and seal them up for a few days. Cinnamon and cloves are my favorite scented pinecones.
Add pine cones to fresh green wreaths or garlands.
Make pine cone reindeer for your holiday table. They make adorable place card holders.

Dried herbs and flowers make great gift embellishments. Tie a bundle of dried herbs to the outside of your package or gift bag to add an extra touch. The dried herbs or flowers will smell wonderful, and look adorable at the same time.

Fresh herbs can also be delightful on a package, you can use rosemary or lavender and you’ll get a wonderful scent to go with your dressed up look. Just wait until right before you’re ready to deliver the package before you attach the fresh herbs. Both of these herbs hold their own as they’re drying, so they won’t …read more

A Gardener’s Christmas Tree

A Gardener’s Christmas Tree

I love adding elements from the garden to my Christmas tree. Whether it’s the creatures of the garden like silk butterflies, and  little birds, or other elements like tiny watering cans or greenery there’s definitely gardening present on my Christmas tree every year.

I also like to add elements from my garden to the Christmas tree, from tiny dried flower filled baskets, to dried flowers in glass bulbs, and painted or scented pine cones, I always enjoy bringing the outdoors in when I decorate for the holidays.
I’ve also included babies breath on the tree branches, and little lavender tussie mussies or …read more

Favorite Christmas Plants

Favorite Christmas Plants

There are a couple plants that come to mind when I think of Christmas. They’re kind of a tradition in our family. Some of the traditions are older, some are newer.

I always think of Christmas greens and think of the evergreens like spruce, pine, and firs. I’m always snipping of branches where no one will notice on my evergreens around Christmas time. I bring in the sprigs and use them to decorate.
Holly is another Christmas favorite. I love to pluck off sprigs of Holly to decorate wreaths and my fireplace mantel.
Mistletoe is another holiday favorite, just don’t get caught standing …read more

Faces In The Garden

Faces In The Garden

I love the faces you see on trees. They always seem unexpected when I see them. I’ve been thinking about getting a couple for my own garden. Maybe a happy face smiling down on my vegetables and flowers.
Like one of these:

I love how the tree leaves look like hair when you’re looking at the faces. I love the different personalities of the different faces.

This last one looks angry to me. I’m not sure if I’d want him in my garden, only happy thoughts are aloud in my garden.

These adorable tree faces were in a friends …read more
