Bokashi Composting for Small Spaces
You don’t hear much about Bokashi composting, but it’s a great compost method for people with small spaces, or limited materials to add to their compost pile.
Bokashi composters are small self contained units, that when used correctly can yield you some golden rich compost. The process also produces a nutrient rich liquid fertilizer that can be used to benefit your garden after it’s been properly diluted.
Bokashi composting relies on a effective microorganism mixture to help break down organic matter (such as kitchen scraps, or grass cuttings) quickly. After the contents have fermented to a couple weeks they can be dug into your garden.
You can purchase a Bokashi Composting Kit, or make your own out of a 5 gallon bucket, with some type of drainage in the bottom into another container.
City Farmer has a Bokashi recipe posted at the bottom of their page, if you’d like to give it a try.
I’m far from an expert in this method, so if anyone uses this method regularly I’d love to hear your experiences, and stories.

This would be good for apartments, except most apartment people would just have to give the compost away. : )
