9 Fun Uses For Gourds
Gourds are a staple for fall harvest displays, but gourds can also be used for many other things, they’re very versatile. I try to grow some of every size and shape in my garden every year.
Here are just some of the uses there are for gourds.
- You can paint them and add them to a display of painted pumpkins.
- You can dry them and use them to make Christmas ornaments.
- You can add them to a fall centerpiece for the dinner, or buffet table.
- You can scoop out the seeds and insides, and use them for colorful containers.
- Add them to your fall backyard display.
- They would add some color to a cornucopia.
- Hide them around the yard and add them to the list for a fall scavenger hunt.
- Make a birdhouse. The large bottleneck, or birdhouse gourds work the best for this. Let them dry in a warm dry place. When you can shake them and hear the seeds rattling, cut a round hole for the bird’s entrance in the front of the gourd. Drill a small hole in the bottom for drainage, and a couple small holes at the top to loop a wire or string through.
- Dry them, to save some seeds for next years crop.
What do you use your gourds for?

I do love me some gourds. We made them into dippers when I was a kid. And homegrown maracas! Thank you for the reminder. I will have to grow some next year.
