This is the 75 year anniversary of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller center. They worked hard to make sure that this year’s tree was as eco-friendly as possible.

Here are some of the things done to ensure this years tree would not impact the Earth’s ecosystem in a negative way.

1. The tree was cut with an old fashioned two person hand saw, to avoid the use of carbon base fuels.

2. They replanted the site where the tree came from.

3. They’re illuminating the tree with the latest LED energy efficient lights available (over 30,000 of them). The lights are being powered by permanent groundbreaking photovoltaic (solar) panels. The panels will be used after Christmas to help provide power in Rockefeller Center.

4. After the holiday season the tree will be recycled for Habitat for Humanity, where it will be used to build symbolic door frames to be used around the world.

Wow, that’s one busy ecofriendly tree. In the mean time the tree will be viewed over the next few weeks by millions of people.
