6 Reasons To Create a Raised Bed Garden
I have a couple raised bed gardens bordering my house. I would like to create more, so I made this list as some extra inspiration. Here are some great reasons to create raised bed gardens, if you haven’t already.
1. I think the most important reason to create a raised bed garden is to improve the soil. When you install a raised bed you can create your own soil mixture loaded with compost, and organic matter.
2. It’s easier to reach the weeds in a raised bed garden. The older I get the more I appreciate bending even a few inches less to reach those pesky weeds.
3. Raised bed gardens can add a decorative look to your landscape. Organize several raised bed gardens to form a path, or pattern.
4. The soil in a raised bed garden will warm up quicker in the spring.
5. If you don’t make your beds too wide, they’re much easier to work with. You can also form natural paths between the beds for people and pets to walk on. In other words it keeps people and animals from stepping on your plants.
6. If you have a low area in the garden where the water likes to stand, you can use a raised bed to make the area useable.
Do you have a raised bed gardening? If you do, what is your favorite thing about it?

My favorite thing about raised beds is that I can plant in it earlier than straight into the ground. The soil is workable earlier than ground soil, since the water drains off. The negative is that you will probably need to water it more in the hotter part of the summer. We have a lovely vegetable garden going on in our raised beds. Salads whenever we want it right now. I love our raised beds.

I have a type of raised bed garden - a square foot garden. My favorite thing is I can neglect it and unlike past gardens it’s not going to be completely overrun by weeds or pests. As long as it gets watered (which with a drip irrigation system with a timer I don’t have to remember) when I’m having a bad week all I have to do is harvest stuff. Love it.

I have a container garden at this point, but would love to try a raised bed one when space will allow. Good post!

Here is a little more inspiration for raised beds. I volunteer at a school garden that has themes for their raised beds that I thought your readers might find fun. The name of the school garden is Woodward Gardens and it is located in Tigard, Oregon. http://www.betterlivingshow.org/WoodwardGardensraisedbeds.asp
