Gifts For The Gardener~ The Mantis Tiller

Gifts For The Gardener~ The Mantis Tiller

The Mantis is my favorite little garden tiller. It’s not so large that I can’t maneuver it in the garden, like some other tillers.
The Mantis Tiller/Cultivator has an exclusive patented reversible “serpentine” tines to dig deep even in the hardest soil (and I have high clay hard soil in parts of my Ohio garden).
It’s the little tiller that could, easy to start, and easy to use.
The Mantis tiller helps you till even the tightest spaces between plants, which works great for me. I tend to plant everything close together, then about half way through the summer everything’s …read more

Gifts For The Gardener~ Easy Bloom Plant Sensor

Here is a gift idea for the gadget loving gardener on your gift list this year. The Easy Bloom has an in ground sensor that can analyze the growing conditions in your garden, yard, or even indoors.
The Easy Bloom Plant Sensor uses the same technology that was used on NASA’s Mars Phoenix mission to measure the soil. It even kinda looks like a mini-spaceship with flower petals.
It’s easy to use, just let the Easy Bloom gather data for at least 24 hours, then plug it into your computer USB port and check out its readings and recommendations.
Its …read more

The Rosemary Who Became a Houseplant

The Rosemary Who Became a Houseplant

I brought in one of my Rosemary plants the morning we had our first snow. I have never had much luck keeping a rosemary plant alive indoors through the winter, but I’m going to give this one a try.
Right now I have it in our laundry room, which doesn’t have any direct heat vents, and stays between 55-60` F through the winter. I’ve repotted it, since it was in a large planter outside with several other plants. It’s in a sunny north window. I was thinking about taking it upstairs, where it’s even cooler, and no direct heat, …read more

The First Snow of the Season on My Ohio Garden

The First Snow of the Season on My Ohio Garden

Today we got the first measurable snow of the season on my Ohio garden. It was a beautiful snow, big white fluffy flakes that came down hard for a little while. I had to snap a few pics to share with you.
The trees and yard are all sparkly and snow covered. I don’t think it will last long, are temps are hovering just above freezing right now.

The last few surviving plants in the garden weren’t enjoying their snow cover.

I think it’s a good weekend to curl up in front of the window …read more
