Lilac Anticipation

Lilac Anticipation

I showed you a photo of my almost lilac blooms the other day. I hoped they’d be in full bloom by now, but damp, cool, cloudy weather seems to have slowed them down. It’s finally sunny today so I’m hoping to bring you lilacs in full bloom later today or tomorrow.

While you’re waiting Tree Hugging Family has a wonderful post loaded with lilac tree goodness, so go hug a lilac tree.

Chocolate and Gardening The Perfect Combination

Chocolate and Gardening The Perfect Combination

I had a blast doing a guest post for Chocolate Bytes. I enjoy planning parties, decorating cakes, and gardening. This guest post gave me the opportunity to do all three, with chocolate!
Melted chocolates make great cupcake or cake toppers. I think these garden molded chocolates would be fun for a cookout, or just for summer fun. If you’re planning a Mother’s Day party, summer garden party, or birthday tea party check out how to make these melted chocolate garden cupcake toppers.

The View From My Window

The View From My Window

The Lifestyles Channel here at b5media is letting the world know where we blog. In the winter I either blog in my office, which is not impressive and usually messy. Sometimes I blog on the living room couch, not real glamorous.
In the spring I can’t stand to be inside, so I either blog outside, or from a chair on the front porch.  Since it’s been warmer the last few weeks the front porch is where you’ll find me writing during the day (if I’m not in the garden procrastinating, or should I say thinking about writing).
Here’s my spring …read more

Desperate Landscapes on DIY

Desperate Landscapes on DIY

The DIY network has a new show called Desperate Landscapes. They’ll take the ugliest yards and transform them into outdoor show places. It’s really interesting to watch them make changes to the landscaping, then see the end result.
They also invite you to submit a photo of your yard to their website (whether your yard is the good, the bad, or the ugly).  Desperate Landscapes will be airing on Tuesdays at 9pm ET, check out the website for complete listings.
I’m not a big TV fan, but DIY, cooking, and gardening shows usually get my attention. Here’s a short clip …read more

Let It Rot! Winner

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Let It Rot! giveaway. I enjoyed all the fun composting comments. I love the feedback, it helps me determine what would be helpful to cover here at Mother Earth’s Garden.
The winner was picked by Random.org, comment number 36. The lucky winner of Let it Rot!: The Gardener’s Guide to Composting is Kristina who said…
…in our old house, we used to just dump everything in a compost pile. No real system was utilized. That won’t work in our new house, and have yet to come up with a good plan!

Bloom Report ~ Cherry Blossoms

Bloom Report ~ Cherry Blossoms

My little cherry tree is in full bloom right now. I just hope the frost warning we have for next week doesn’t turn into a freeze warning.

I have a peach tree that’s blooming for the first time this year. It’s the peach tree with nine lives. I planted 4 of them a couple years ago and the deer ate the tops out of all of them. Only two survived. About a year and a half ago a deer decided to scrape all the bark off the remaining two peach trees. One died, the other one is still growing …read more
