Three Plants for the Price of . . . . Half of One?

Three Plants for the Price of . . . . Half of One?

You’ve seen these right? Little 6-8″ pots with three or more plants in them. You find them everywhere. Even in stores that don’t carry gardening or even house supplies. They usually run any where from $2 – $7. Cheap, small, mass produced plants that are meant to attract people who don’t normally garden, or even have so much as an air fern in their house. If your looking for new house plants, this is probably the best deal you could ever find. Cheaper than normal house plants you find in garden centers and …read more

Gardening: Getting Close to the Maker

Gardening: Getting Close to the Maker

I was asked not so long ago, what drives me to create, and why I like to garden. I debated about posting an answer to this question for some time. As a blogger, I can pretty much say anything I want about a particular topic, with out constraint. But then comes the obstacle of writing something that is understandable and acceptable to a broad spectrum without offending or segregating people. But I can not write that way, any more than I can live that way. Who we are as people is reflected in what we …read more

Skin MD: Best Lotion for Gardener’s

Skin MD: Best Lotion for Gardener’s

About a week ago I was contacted by 21st Century Formulations to test a new product of theirs. I’m always willing to test new products, but with a warning that I will be brutally honest about it. I agreed to test their Skin MD Natural lotion and it was shipped to me within two days. “Well, this is a good start,” I thought, “at least they got it to me quickly.” After reading the info provided with it, the claim of this lotion is that it works better than other lotions. Well of course that is nothing new, but after …read more

Japanese Elm

Japanese Elm

Check out Mother Earth’s Garden’s 50 Best Trees for a list of other trees to plant in your yard or garden.

Japanese Elm is a hardy tree that has replaced the more disease ridden American Elm for landscapers and property owners. It includes a variety of elms, including the most disease and insect resistant elm, the Village Green Elm. The bark varies slightly between trees, but is usually smooth and grey. The bark sometimes flakes off leaving a mottled pattern of grey, russet, and cream. Leaves are dark green and jagged with a rough texture. …read more

Red Oak

Red Oak

Yet another tree from Mother Earth’s 50 best trees for your yard and garden.

A very majestic tree that can grow very old. Definitely a tree you want to plant for future generations. Because they are pollution tolerant they also make great borders to road ways and sidewalks. Also a wonderful tree to have for fall foliage. If you like squirrels, then you’ll have an abundance of them with the acorns, but avoid this tree if you are worried about squirrels getting into other parts of your yard. This tree takes some time to become well established, and while it is …read more

Best Time to Buy Perennials

Best Time to Buy Perennials

I’ve never been much of one to buy my plants from my local Wal-Mart, they usually don’t care very well for their plants and I end up getting diseased or sickly foliage. But, that aside, now is the best time to go perennial shopping! If your willing to hunt through the cast offs to find some better looking plants, you’ll end up saving quite a lot compared to if you waited until spring. You can usually find racks like this one in most general garden centers, and some of the better garden centers have several “must-go” clearance …read more

Veggie Art

Veggie Art

Now this is just cool! I’m not sure I would have the time to do all of this, but it might be neat for a big get together. My only question is do you eat it, or just let it sit there and look pretty? It is definitely better than the vegetable stew I usually end up making with my garden vegetables! You can check out some other cool veggie art at Moss Pink. Also, be sure to send me some of your veggie and fruit creations, and I’ll post them here.
